Stormwater Run Off Virtual 5k | March 12-19

CWEP is excited to announce the 2022 Stormwater Run Off 5k! To participate, you may walk or run 5 kilometers (3.2 miles), along a waterway near you, anytime during Creek Week. We are using Strava to track submissions, please register here and create a free Strava account if you don’t already have one. Tips for new Strava users and info on *how to join our club* can be found here. This event is free and can be completed anytime during Creek Week. During your walk/run, you may also choose to collect any litter you see along the way. We will announce multiple winners to receive CWEP prizes. #CWEPCreekWeek #RunOff5k

Town of Wake Forest will have a route with sings along the paved trails at Joyner Park.

Town of Chapel Hill has designated routes on the paved Bolin Creek & Fan Branch Trails.

Regional Creek Week BioThon | March 12 – 19

Welcome to the The Clean Water Education Partnership’s Regional Creek Week BioThon! This project focuses on how water connects us all through exploring, documenting and identifying native aquatic species of early spring. Submissions will be tracked on iNaturalist, you can join the project here, and check out tips for new users here. #CWEPCreekWeek #CWEPBioThon

County Litter Clean Up – Orange County | March 12 – 19

Join us for a weeklong DIY cleanup.  This virtual event challenges you to grab a bag and collect trash in your community. Our goal is to beat last years joint cleanup trash total of 1,555 pounds.

Storm Drain Marking Competition – Raleigh | March 12 – 19

The City of Raleigh is challenging school classrooms to participate in Storm Drain Marking. For more information and supplies, please email stormwatervolunteers@raleighnc.gov.

Saturday, March 12th

Educational Booth Morrisville | March 12, 9:30am – 12pm

Come down to the Western Wake Farmer’s Market for fresh local produce, artisans & craftspeople, and visit the Town of Morrisville Stormwater education table for information and giveaways on how you can help protect stormwater and waterways!

[CANCELLED] Stream Cleanup – Raleigh | March 12, 10am – 12pm

Volunteer stream clean up at Chavis Park. Registration required, visit City of Raleigh website to sign up.

All trash collected will count towards the North Carolina Wildlife Federation’s Clean and Green initiative – for every 25 pounds of trash that is collected, one native tree or ten pollinator plants will be planted!

Creek Week Events Table – Carrboro | March 12, 9am – 12pm

Meet with Carrboro Stormwater Staff to learn about all of the creek week activities and how to join the fun!

[CANCELLLED] Expired Medication Dropoff – Raleigh | March 12, 10am – 12pm

Raleigh Police Department will be accepting expired medications for proper disposal at Chavis Park during the stream cleanup. NO registration required.

Meet the Creek – Chapel Hill | March 12, 10am – 12pm

Join us for a fun and educational morning as we explore School House Creek during Orange County Creek Week. Explore the creek and the critters who call it home, play games, learn about stormwater management, the water cycle, and more during this event geared toward kids in grades K-5. No registration required.

Rocky River Cleanup – Chatham County | March 12, 10am – 12pm

Join the Rocky River Heritage Foundation as we clean up along the Rocky River in Chatham County! To register to participate in this program, email the RRHF at rockyriverheritageinfo@gmail.com.

[CANCELLED] Creek Exploration – Spring Lake | March 12, 11am – 1pm

Join the Town of Spring Lake at Mendoza Park in learning how to use iNaturalist to search for and identify creek critters in nearby waterways.

My Tree, Our Tree – Cary | March 12, 11:30am – 2:30pm

Town of Cary will be giving away native trees to Town residents to help support the many benefits trees provide, including stormwater management. Registration opens February 8th at 9am, on the MyCary platform. Visit the event website for more info.

Riverwalk Invasive Species Removal – Hillsborough | March 12, 1 – 4pm

Hillsborough Tree Board will be leading a volunteer effort to clear invasive species along the Hillsborough Riverwalk on the Eno River. Contact Hillsborough Stormwater and Environmental Services for more information.

Morgan Creek Cleanup – Chapel Hill | March 12, 1pm – 4:30pm

Clean up around Morgan Creek – meet at the North Carolina Botanical Garden gazebo in the visitors parking lot at 1 pm to drive to the clean up site. Contact Johnny Randall if you plan to attend.

Water Quality with Aquatic Insects – Chatham County | March 12, 2 – 3pm

Join Chatham County Watershed Protection Department as we get in the river to explore the world of macroinvertebrates. Registration required, email phillip.cox@chathamcountync.gov.

Native Riparian Plants Webinar – Chatham County | March 14, 5:30 – 7pm

Guided Hike at White Pines Nature Preserve – Chatham County | March 16, 9 – 11am

Please join The Triangle Land Conservancy for a hike at the wonderful White Pines Nature Preserve that will cover some of the natural wonders of the confluence of the Rocky and Deep Rivers as well as some of the history of Chatham County’s land near the preserve. Winter Amphibians – Cary | March 18, 10 – 11am

Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve in Cary is offering a program for adults to learn about amphibian behavior during the winter months. Registration required, visit the Town of Cary website. $5 for Cary residents, $6 for non-residents.

Household Hazardous Waste Day – Chatham County | March 19, 9am – 3pm

Protect our surface and ground waters by bringing your Household Hazardous Waste to be recycled or disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

Litter Clean Up – Holly Springs | March 19, 9am – 12pm

Pritchard Park Workday – Chapel Hill | March 19, 9:30am – 12pm

Join us for a workday to promote greater diversity of native plants & animals, beautify the park, and create a healthier ecosystem for visitors to enjoy.  Please bring a water bottle, sturdy shoes, gloves, long pants, cap, sunscreen and your favorite weeding/pruning tools!

Educational Walk – Wendell | MARCH 19, 10AM – 12PM

The Town of Wendell’s Stormwater Department will be holding an Educational Walk and Talk to celebrate Creek Week at Wendell Park! Meetup will be at the Hugh T. Moody Trailhead near the volleyball court at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 19th.
